FALL FAMILY SESSION STYLING GUIDE
I'am so excited to photograph some past and new clients this fall! To help you have the best experience I've created some fall outfit inspiration to help you plan for your upcoming sessions.
These outfits are to be used as a guide, it doesn't mean you need to follow them to a "T". It's all about pairing neutrals with a hint of color (usually a muted colors cuch as whites, tans, mustard, burgundy, green, navy blue, grays, etc..). I always suggest adding layers to your outfits. Layers photograph really nice. Layers like cardigans, jackets, vests are the perfect finishing touch!
The end goal of your photos isn't to look back in 10 years and say "ah, what did I wear!" The main focal point of the session is to capture your love and connection, so wearing something timeless helps achive that.
Finding the perfect outfit for your family session may take a little bit of work. Don't get overwhelmed. Here are a few of my favorite stores to shop that always have a great selection: ZARA (my most favorite), GAP, OLD NAVY, H&M and Target. They are very affordable, many times coordinate well from baby sizes to adults, and have timeless pieces that photograph well.
5 BASIC TIPS FOR PLANNING FAMILY OUTFITS
1. Coordinating your outfits by finding a color palette you love and finding pieces that compliment one another. Avoid matchy-matchy and black on black as your main color.
2. Layers are must and add accessories with a hat, headbands, necklace, jacket, or a vest.
3. Wear a clothes that a fashionable, yet still functional for the location. Keep in mind we will be moving around.
4. When it comes to patterns, a good rule of thumb is to have one or two patterned outfits for every three people included in the session. Floral prints, stripes, light plaids work great! Also, avoid logos. I typically like to start by finding a floral dress for a mom or a daughter and then building the rest of the "ensemble" surrounding that piece, pulling colors out of the dress that compliments it.
5. Shoes! Remember that you'll want to be comfortable as we move around, however please stay away from character themed shoes, athletic shoes, and bulky soles.
